When I make campbell’s soup I never consider it a recipe. It’s like a meal, one that combines all my favorite ingredients. I simply toss the ingredients in a blender and start blending. I know it’s not the best soup I’ve ever made, but I can honestly say it’s the best I’ve ever made.
What makes the soup even better is that the ingredients are in the same place as they always have been. Just mix the soup together and you feel like you’re making a salad when you get home.

In case you don’t know, Campbells soup was created in the late 1800s by a man named John Muir, who was the first to introduce chicken broth to the American palate. The original recipe calls for chicken broth (or broth) with “a small amount of rice, vegetables, and herbs.” I think that the first soup I ever had was Campbells soup, and it was a pretty good one.
I’m glad that Campbells Soup is still around. So long as it’s made with chicken broth, I’m not going to stop eating it. So today’s soup is Campa’s Tomato and Mushroom Soup with Fresh Basil.
This soup, as you probably know, is named after a famous British explorer. As I mentioned, he was also the pioneer of chicken soup, so you just might have seen him in action. He was sent out by King George to find a way to get California from Mexico. He spent the next year and a half searching for a way to get it across Canada and into California. He eventually died in a plane crash during the attempt.
